In a thrilling display of quantum brain power, the talented students of the Eigen Team emerged victorious in the 2025 Physical Chemistry Tournament, outclassing their peers with dazzling mastery of everything from the particle in a box and harmonic oscillator to the variation method, perturbation theory, and kinetic rate laws. Not only did they ace questions on partition functions and thermodynamics, but they also connected to a supercomputer—yes, the real kind—and successfully ran vibrational frequency calculations like pros. With equal parts strategy, smarts, and sheer determination, the Eigen Team showed that theoretical chemistry can be both rigorous and wildly fun. We are incredibly proud of their achievement!
Eigen Team Members
- Xochil – This was such a fun experience to do as a chemistry major. I hope to be a chemist/lab technician in the future.
- Sameer – team captain! – As a chemistry major, I found this to be a fun and incredible experience. The tools and expertise that I have picked up from this tournament and this class will absolutely help me with my future in chemistry. I am aiming to work in the pharmaceutical or the medical field.
- Gabe – As a Chemical Engineering major this was an incredible opportunity and experience. As I am gearing up to graduate I plan on continuing my job in material science and potentially a career switch to either green energy or pharmaceuticals.
- Will – This was a really fun and great experience and helped with thinking critically about difficult problems and slowly working through them with things that we learned previously. These problems and how they helped me think about problem solving will help me in the future when I graduate and hopefully work in the materials or energy industry.
