Faculty publishes new textbook
Prof. Preston T. Snee has published an open education resource (OER) textbook for junior to senior level physical chemistry. The purpose of OER is to reduce the financial burden that disproportionately affects low income students by eliminating the costs for college textbooks. Titled "Free Energy", the resource contains all original material and is completely free to the public. A novel approach was employed by making all the various work products (original text and figures) available for download so that a faculty who wishes to adopt the text for their class can make changes at will to suit their needs.
A website has been created to disseminate "Free Energy" and can be found here. Financial support was provided for the past 8 years of development by the University of Illinois Chicago library.
